Tessellation Explorer

How to use: Pick a shape (3 to 6 sides) or Freeform. Click on the coordinate plane to place each vertex (snaps to integers). In Freeform, place at least 3 points and click Close shape. Then click Tessellate to see if it tiles the plane — and look closely at the result.
Click 3 points to make a triangle

Try this: Start with a triangle — any shape works, every triangle tessellates. Then a quadrilateral, even a weird non-convex one. Then try a pentagon and a hexagon — and watch what happens. Look for gaps and overlaps. Why might the same trick stop working?
